Having studied Human Geography in Utrecht followed by a Masters degree in Town planning in Nijmegen, Robert joined the development company of the City of Amsterdam, later becoming Deputy Managing Director of Development.
From 1998 Robert joined the planning office of Zuidas Amsterdam area development as Deputy Managing Director and has been a Member of the Board of Directors of the Zuidas development since 2009.
