Dr. Christoph Schumacher

Managing Director, Union Investment Institutional Property GmbH, Germany

Dr Schumacher was appointed Managing Director of Union Investment Institutional Property GmbH in March 2011. Within the Union Investment group, he is responsible for real-estate and infrastructure business for institutional customers, managing around €7.5bn across 18 funds. From 2005 to 2011, he worked at the Generali Group. From 2008, he was Managing Director of Generali Immobiliare Asset Management S.à.r.l in both Luxembourg and Paris.

Dr Schumacher previously worked as a lawyer for Linklaters in Berlin and London. From 2000 to the end of 2001, he was involved in politics in Berlin where he was personal advisor/office manager to the finance minister of Berlin. In this role i.a. he was responsible for establishing the state of Berlin’s facility management company and also led negotiations for the sale of housing associations owned by the city state.

Dr Schumacher began his career in 1999 at KPMG. He is a graduate of law and studied in Freiburg, Geneva and Bonn. At the University of Münster’s Institute for International Commercial Law, he was awarded a doctorate for his thesis on corporate-sponsored charitable foundations.

Since January 1st, 2016, Dr Schumacher is the spokesman of the board of the German Property Federation “ZIA Region Nord”.
