Background
At BZW (which later became part of CSFB) he was one of the Extel rated property analyst team before moving into the Equity Capital Markets Department. There he was responsible for fund raising and corporate advisory services to a number of leading quoted property companies such as Hammerson, Chelsfield, Burford and Grantchester, and later became Head of the Property Sector in the Investment Banking division.
He left in 1998 to join Apax Partners, the European private equity firm, where he specialised in corporate finance transactions in the real estate sector for clients such as GE Capital before forming AME Capital in May 2002. There he created a database and proprietary quantitative model for filtering and analysing all listed real estate companies globally (currently over 2,000) , using factors such as asset location, gearing, absolute and relative performance and yield. It was the only database of its kind in the market, and also captured all listed corporate bonds in the listed real estate sector globally. In addition AME Capital created a database of all dedicated real estate securities funds, and developed a series of sector specific and country REIT Indices, the first of their kind, which are quoted on Bloomberg. This database was used by a wide variety of advisory and subscription clients.
In July 2008 he sold the assets of AME Capital Ltd to Macquarie Securities who appointed him to the newly created role of Head of Global Property Securities Analytics, as well as being Head of European Real Estate Research. At Macquarie he integrated his databases and research with Macquarie local analysts to initiate and develop the global real estate offering, producing the monthly Global Property Insight, and the unique Securities Funds Pulse, before leaving at the end of 2011.
