Responsible for Economic Development and Regeneration teams including town centres, employability services and Invest in Renfrewshire. Launched the new Economic Framework for Renfrewshire in 2019, and currently working towards revised Glasgow City Region Economic Strategy alongside the member authority partners, capturing and evaluating the economic benefits from the planned City Deal infrastructure investments and the new Paisley Town Centre 10 year Action Plan. All integral and closely linked to Paisley’s cultural heritage renaissance and its £100m cultural investment programme.
The City Deal investment includes AMIDS (Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District) which will create an internationally recognised centre for innovation, research and advanced manufacturing. It will be home to the €72.8 million (£65 million) National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland (NMIS), which will be the catalyst for the development of Scotland’s advanced manufacturing industry, providing support for manufacturing businesses and connecting all of Scotland’s engineering universities and colleges.
Alasdair joined Renfrewshire in 2015 from consultancy GVA. Prior to joining GVA, he worked in roles including head of regeneration for City of York Council and as a planner for Kirklees and Western Isles Councils.
He has a master’s degree in geography and residential planning from the University of Aberdeen and a postgraduate diploma in planning from Heriot-Watt University.
