Nicola Palmarini
Director, National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA), UK
Nicola Palmarini serves as the Director of the UK’s National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA), a pioneering institution focused on enhancing the quality of life as people age. Supported by a £30 million initial investment from the UK Government and Newcastle University, NICA collaborates with citizens, and both private and public entities, to co-develop innovative, ethical, and sustainable products, services, and technologies aimed at the ageing population. With a mission to “add intelligence to ageing and longevity,” NICA addresses the personal, social, environmental, and economic aspects that influence various life stages.
In addition to his role at NICA, Palmarini is a co-founder of the Edelman-NICA Longevity Lab, a unique initiative in partnership with PR firm Edelman, designed to explore the economic potentials of an ageing society. He is also the CEO of VOICE Italia, expanding the VOICE network beyond the UK to involve a broader international community in identifying needs and driving innovation for healthy ageing.
Among his recent projects, Palmarini launched the City of Longevity initiative, a dynamic, evidence-based program that offers cities a framework and tools for promoting longer, healthier lives for their residents and tourists. This initiative was introduced in July at a conference attended by representatives from cities worldwide, including Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv, demonstrating its global impact and reach.
